Dear Parent or Guardian:
Through the PATHFinder Program, Fisler School is using Project Based Learning, or PBL, to help students be motivated about gaining knowledge, exploring their passions, and applying their skills to personally relevant and real-world situations. Your child also learns valuable skills in PBL, such as how to think critically, solve problems, work in teams, and make presentations. These skills will help students succeed in the future, both in school and in today’s work world. You can find more information about PBL: http://www.bie.org
The PBL portion of PATHFinder will be Trimester 2’s focus during Compass Time, which is held on Tuesdays from 2:05-2:50 pm. Students will use driving questions and be focused on presenting and showcasing their findings. Your child may work independently or work in a team, guided by the teacher. We will offer mentorships, guidance, and speaker opportunities from the community, centered around your child’s career and college interests. We will also have field trip opportunities! At the end of the project, students will share their work publicly in various formats such a movies, websites, and presentations.
As parents or guardians, you can discuss the project at home, encouraging your child to critically think and ask questions about the topic. You can also support the project by volunteering to speak about a career or share ideas on field trip opportunities. You can find more information regarding PATHFinder on the Parent Portal: http://goo.gl/gwWie3
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions! We look forward to this exciting opportunity with middle school!
